Broken Frontier

If a picture is worth a thousand words, can a comic be worth one million dollars?  J.S. Earls, creator of the critically-acclaimed comic Pistolfist, sure hopes so.  Right now, you can either buy Pistolfist in your local comic shop or go to Wowio.com where you can read it online (for *free)…or download it for one million dollars!
 
"It's just that good," said Earls with a smile.  "Seriously though, these are difficult times for everyone and, if I have to do something like this to feed my kids, so be it.  Any publicity is good publicity…right?"  Earls continued, "This is not a slam on Wowio.  In my opinion, they've done more to help independent creators make money and spread their work around the world than anyone else.  Especially, with Diamond short-ordering most independents these days.  In this economy, I understand why they have to do it, but I've had to field e-mails from several irritated stores and fans."
 
"The truth is that most people won't pay to download books when they can view them for free.  So, the million dollar download price really started as a joke, but then I though – hey – stranger things have happened!       
 
Earls had to quit his day job when a multitude of medical problems with his hands and wrists severely hindered him.  While waiting for his Disability trial to get some sort of Disability, Earls has utilized the time to build a promising career as a writer—with a little help from a voice recognition program.
 
"In reality, most creators think their ideas are worth a million dollars.  I'm just taking that concept to the next level."  Earls concluded, "My writing career has begun to take off, but I'm a father and a husband first and foremost.  So meeting the practical needs of my wife and kids is forefront in my mind.  Heck, if nothing else, I just hope people give Pistolfist a chance.  It's worth a shot."
