Earlier this month, word leaked that Jean Giraud, better known in the world of comics as Moebius, will pencil issue #18 of the hit European series of XIII. The rumor has since been confirmed by regular series artist William Vance and series publisher Dargaud.

Since Moebius, primarily known for his work on Blueberry, Incal and Arzach, is one of the most acclaimed artists in Europe, the announcement was big news. His episode, XIII #18, titled ‘The Irish Version’, will appear simultaneously with issue #19, on November 13, 2007. The latter issue is illustrated by William Vance, who provided artwork for all of the previous issues of XIII.

Issues #18-19 will act as a two-parter, as one can’t be read without the other. Both publications mark the end of the popular series’ current cycle, an opportune moment for writer Jean Van Hamme to bow out gracefully. Vance will remain on to pencil further episodes.

XIII is adapted for the US market by Dabel Brothers in association with Marvel Comics. An uncensored graphic novel edition collecting the first three issues of XIII will be released on January 31.
