MONSTROSITY, INC., an intellectual property company formed by Laura Harkcom & Christopher Leone, announces the debut of the comic book “We Kill Monsters,” from publisher Red 5 Comics this July.
GHOSTBUSTERS meets EVIL DEAD 2 in this action-comedy about Jake and Andrew Basher, brothers who are small-town auto mechanics. They live ordinary lives, struggling to keep the family business afloat, until one fateful night when they’re attacked by a vicious, 3-eyed monster. The brothers manage to kill it, but not before it infects Jake with its DNA, leaving him with one super-strong monster arm. It also makes him dependant on “monster juice,” the glowing fluid from the monster’s brain, to stay alive. Which means of course: the Bashers must kill more monsters.
“We Kill Monsters” is a 6-issue limited series that will publish monthly. The comic is receiving much advance critical praise. It was selected as Diamond’s Staff Pick of the Month for May, and Ain’t It Cool News cited it as “one that shouldn’t be missed. ” The Comic Addiction says it “brings back everything I used to love about ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ when it was on TV – it has the humour, the monsters, the gripping characters and a story that I don’t want to end.” For a complete list of reviews, see www.wekillmonsters.com.
Harkcom & Leone are best known for their original television mini-series “The Lost Room,” which they co-created, co-wrote and co-executive produced for The Sci Fi Channel and Lionsgate Television. “The Lost Room” starred Peter Krause, Julianna Margulies and Kevin Pollak. The 6-hour series garnered much critical acclaim, with The New York Times calling it “…a jackpot for a mystery series,” and Entertainment Weekly citing it as “…one of the most creative ideas to hit TV in a while.” The show was nominated for two Emmys and a Writers Guild Award.
MONSTROSITY, INC. was founded by Christopher Leone & Laura Harkcom as an intellectual property company to provide original content for film, television, comics, games and new media. It joins an increasing number of ventures launched by writer-creators such as Seth MacFarlane and Joss Whedon to produce work across multiple platforms. “We Kill Monsters” is the first project to launch under the new Monstrosity banner. Monstrosity is represented by The Brant Rose Agency, Circle of Confusion, Ltd., and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.
