Narwain Publishing announced today that their previously solicited miniseries "Shon C. Bury's Threshold" has been retitled as "Shon C. Bury's Nox". The move comes after the discovery that the title "Threshold" is already in use on another comic book series.
"For a brief moment in time there was 'Threshold'. Apparently, two of them," says Shon C. Bury, writer and creator of the series, which dwells in the deep mythological themes explored by Joseph Campbell's Hero Cycle.
"Knowing two books of the same title can't simultaneously exist in the same universe, the crack editorial team at Narwain and I sat down at the eleventh hour to solve this quantum faux pas...what to call the book?
"'X-Men'? As fortune would have it, that title was in use as well. Damn.
"'Planetary'? No. 'From Hell'? 'Powers'? 'The Outsiders'? No. No. And no.
"Finally, the decision was made. The comic book formerly known as 'Shon C. Bury's Threshold' would be known forevermore as 'Shon C. Bury's Nox'. And order to the universe was restored!"
'Nox' features adventures of Joey King, a comparative-mythology student. As such he's fully aware his footsteps where mapped thousands of years before he ever read 'Hero with a Thousand Faces'.
When he receives a mysterious journal, a magickal staff, and an amulet that is as ancient as it is strange, Joey enters a world of demons, goddesses, and mystical gurus, with little time to prepare before the Krill Shadow Wraiths attack.
"'Nox' is a road trip story," Bury said. "It's as much about the journey as it is the destination. We've all read a million comics and seen a thousand movies. We all know how things will end…so why not focus on the getting to that end?"
Artist Allan Goldman, who penciled "Jalila" for the recently launched AK Comics, joins Bury on the hero's quest. "Allan's a veteran Brazilian penciler," says Bury. "When I saw Allan's art I knew he was perfect for this book."
Kubert School grad Ed Waysek provides the colors for the book directly on top on Allan's original pencils.
Issue #1 of 'Shon C. Bury's Nox' is due in comic shops this May. It's a 32 pages full-color pages. ISBN 88-6015-042-6.
