Struggling prime-time superhero drama Heroes won’t be returning next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While it was previously reported that Heroes might be getting a brief and final fifth season, NBC ultimately decided to scrap the series due to its consistently declining ratings and relatively high budget.
However, sources within NBC told THR that the network is not opposed to the idea of officially concluding Heroes with a special or movie at some point down the road.

I lost interest by season 2 to be brutally frank but for those who did follow it all the way I hope some kind of wrap-up does occur. Nothing as frustrating as a DEADWOOD-style lack of closure for a series.

A mercy killing at this point. I stuck with the show but at times I wanted to tear my hair out. They couldn't pick a story direction and stick with it. The writers struggled to find roles for the characters and things would happen and be immediately reversed in the next episode. Which, granted, is a pretty apt metaphor for superhero comics at times but not a great way to run a TV show.
