One hundred years after the Big Wet, Earth has been left a broken, infertile world of rock and sand. The town of Providens is like many others on the post-Big Wet planet--small, mostly illiterate, and struggling for survival. When the town welcomes a stranger named Michael into its midst, will the quiet man lead them to a brave new world or shatter what little order still exists?
“I've been wanting to give Wasteland the hardcover treatment for a while now” said editor in chief James Lucas Jones. “It really is one of the best series out there. It's inventive in its use of the post-apocalyptic concept and frank in the telling of the story. Fans love it as much as we do and it deserves a deluxe edition.”
The first hardcover trade entitled Wasteland: The Apocalyptic Edition, Vol. 1 hits store shelves on September 23rd. Antony Johnston and Christopher Mittens work is collected into 384 pages of content, including the first 13 issues of the series with a full color gallery of Ben Templesmith's gorgeous covers, and the fan-favorite Walking the Dust prose shorts featuring new pinup art by Sam Keith, Brian Hurtt, Robbi Rodriguez, Joelle Jones, and Joe Infurnari. This impressive tome chronicles the opening adventures of Michael, as he struggles to find the answers to both his past and his future.
Fellow writer and Wasteland fan Warren Ellis said, “Wasteland is the best post-apocalyptic comic being published today. And I say that as the author of a post-apocalyptic comic... You want a copy.”
“Wasteland has definitely made its mark as a long running indie comic series.” commented managing editor, Randal Jarrell. “We can't thank the fans enough for all their support over the last couple of years. The deluxe hardcover is as much for them as it is for us.”
When asked about the hardcover edition, writer Antony Johnston commented “I couldn't be more pleased with how it's all turned out. It's hard to believe that we've already made it this far, and there's still a lot of story left to tell." And to the fans, artist Christopher Mitten added, “Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.”
Wasteland: The Apocalyptic Edition, Vol. 1 is on store shelves this Wednesday, September 23rd. It's 384 pages collecting the first 13 issues for $34.99.
While you're in your local comic shop, don't forget to pick up your copy of Wasteland #26, also on shelves September 23rd. This issue kicks off a whole new story arc and is a great jumping-on point for new readers! Six months of chaos and turmoil follows the Sand-Eater battle, as the city struggles to cope with upheaval. Each new issue follows a different character. Wasteland #26: Childhood's End? features Marcus' precocious young charge Yan, as he is sent to work for Artisian Neelan--but discovers a side to life, and perhaps himself, that he never dreamed existed.
