The second issue of Arcana Studio's critically acclaimed Western horror miniseries, SUNDOWN: ARIZONA, hits stores this month, featuring art by comics newcomer Jason Ossman.
Set during the last days of the Old West, SUNDOWN: ARIZONA is the three-issue story of New York City journalist Will Dalton, who heads west to investigate a string of preacher killings in Arizona. Along with his brother Clay, sheriff of a small silver mining town, Will starts to uncover the story behind the murders. He soon finds that the secrets of Arizona 'and how they involve his brother' are worse than he could have possibly imagined.
SUNDOWN: ARIZONA #2 features relative newcomer Jason Ossman on art. Ossman fills the shoes of prior S:A artist Ryan Bodenheim, who had to step down following a hand injury this summer. "Jason's kind of like the mutant offspring of Jim Lee and Mike Mignola", says S:A writer Jay Busbee. "Ryan did a hell of a job on #1, but Jason has proven a damn fine pinch-hitter. Stepping into a book in midstream is tough to do, but I think people are going to be amazed with the assurance and confidence he's brought to the world of SUNDOWN: ARIZONA."
"When Sean O‚Reilly came to me trying to find a replacement for Ryan," began Egg Embry, editor on Arcana Studio's DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, "I looked no further than Jason. When I first met him at Wizard World Texas his samples really impressed me. And his work on Ronin Studio's THE VENGER: DEAD MAN RISING was just outstanding! With SUNDOWN: ARIZONA, I think he's really going to prove himself!"
The first issue of SUNDOWN: ARIZONA won near-unanimous critical praise, with Buzzscope calling it "a promising start to the mini-series" with "an effective cliffhanger," and Silver Bullet Comic Books deeming the first issue "an impressive book in nearly every aspect."
Issue #1 is still available from Diamond (order code MAY05 2943) and directly from Arcana ( www.arcanastudio.com). Issue #2 (JUN05 2768) is scheduled to arrive in stores later this month. Issue #3 (JUL05 2634), featuring the winners of S:A's art and writing contests, will ship in November.
