Friedrich Nietzsche, the original übermensch… Plato, wrestling superstar of ancient Greece … Bodhidharma, grandmaster of kung fu… These aren’t just some of the world’s greatest thinkers…

They also make great comics! Evil Twin Comics has announced the publication of the 2004 Xeric Grant winning comic book series ACTION PHILOSOPHERS, set to premiere in comics shops everywhere in April 2005.

Written by Marvel Comics scribe Fred Van Lente (Amazing Fantasy) and illustrated by Wizard Magazine artist Ryan Dunlavey, ACTION PHILOSOPHERS details the lives and thoughts of history’s A-list brain trust in a hip and humorous way. The first issue focuses on Plato, Friedrich Nietzsche and Bodhidharma, with future issues featuring Joseph Campbell, Thomas Jefferson, Saint Augustine, Ayn Rand, Sigmund Freud, the Kaballah and others – all with Van Lente and Dunlavey’s trademark humor and insight.

Series artist and co-creator Ryan Dunlavey states, “Basically, as corny as it sounds, we want to show that philosophy can be fun, and not just the province of boring tweed-clad college professors. Great ideas are for the everyone, darn it!”

Writer and co-creator Van Lente continues, “It’s important people know this isn’t a parody, or philosophers dressed up as superheroes fighting bank robbers: this is the real deal, with their real ideas, and real fodder for debate and contemplation. We believe that comics can be used to convey any kind of information, including the ideas of history’s greatest thinkers.”

Interested readers can check out a preview of the first issue for free at http://www.eviltwincomics.com/action.html. Retailers should contact Evil Twin Comics for special in-store promotion opportunities and incentives in conjunction with the release of Action Philosophers.
