Samurai Comics and the Trunk Space art gallery, featuring the "BAM! Sequential Art & Comics in the post-Post Modern Era" in May and June proudly presents Phoenix-based horror comics writer Brian Pulido's award-winning short film "There's Something Out There" on Friday June 10 followed by a question and answer session.
"There's Something Out There" is a sixteen-minute short horror film written, directed, and produced by Pulido, who sold his comic book collection on E-Bay to pay for the cost of the production. The story involves a murderous garden gnome who terrorizes a suburban couple.
The film has been wildly successful at festivals all over the country, garnering 24 film festival selections and a gardenful of prestigious awards such as Best Short Film at both the Cine-Macabre Film Festival and the Rhode Island Horror Film Festival. Additionally, "There's Something Out There" was named Most Frightening Film at the Cine-Macabre Film Festival.
Pulido, a comics industry veteran, is the cult-favorite writer of over 260 comic books, including titles like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Lady Death, and Evil Ernie. He was the founder of Chaos Comics, a highly-successful horror comics company in the Valley during the 1990's. This is his first live action film; he wrote and produced the "Lady Death" animated feature for ADV Films. An avid contributor to charitable causes in the comic book field, he is on the Board of Directors for comics charity ACTOR, which "BAM!..." benefits.
"There's Something Out There" will be screened, for free, on Friday June 10th at 8pm at The Trunk Space gallery. Brian Pulido will be on hand for a question and answer session after the movie. The first 50 people attending will receive the comic adaptation of the movie, entitled Killer Gnomes #1 FREE.
