As part of ongoing 10th Anniversary celebration for The Darkness, Top Cow Productions unveiled plans to release The Darkness Volume 1 Novel, the first in a series of prose fiction interpretations of the seminal property.

Following the release of The Darkness video game from 2K Games and Starbreeze at the end of June, Top Cow will publish The Darkness Volume 1 Novel, which promises to explore Jackie Estacado’s early years and his cursed inheritance more than ever before. Written by novelist Kerri Hawkins (Blood Legacy), the first volume will explore Jackie’s early days in the orphanage, his relationship with childhood companion Jenny, his time in the Franchetti crime family, and of course his transformation into the bearer of The Darkness on his twenty first birthday.

"I’ve always been a fan of The Darkness,"  said writer Kerri Hawkins, "and I tried to stay very true to the story. Although Jackie Estacado became The Darkness overnight, it was the 21 years getting to that moment, which intrigued me as a writer."

"The prose format definitely gives us the opportunity to get deeper into Jackie’s mind during those early days," commented Filip Sablik, Vice President of Marketing & Sales, "And with a whole new group of fans coming in from the video game, we want to provide a number of different ways for them to explore the world of The Darkness."

The Darkness Volume 1 Novel is a 150 page novel with a suggested retail price of $6.99. The novel is an anticipated July 2007 release. Additional information regarding The Darkness can be found at www.topcow.com .
