Dynamite Entertainment announced today that the all-new Red Sonja #1 comic book series hassold out from Diamond Comic Distributors. And if that wasn’t enough good news, we were also told that issue #0 has been sold out for a bit.
“Diamond sold out of issue #1 Tuesday morning, and any orders are now going to back order. We’re not going back to press at this moment, as there are a few retailers who showed great support for Red Sonja, and we want to make sure that they sell out before we look into producing more copies -- and based on conversations with retailers across the country, thankfully, they’re doing well. We’ll be monitoring the boards (CBIA and others) over the next few weeks, listening to retailer feedback, and seeing if we should or should not go to a second print,” explained Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen.
Sonja writer Michael Avon Oeming added: “My first thought is: I'm the luckiest guy in the world, and I have you, the fans, and the retailers, to thank for supporting us, as well as being lucky enough to be working with such great talents as Mike Carey, Mel Rubi, Caesar Rodriguez and Richard Isanove!”
The writer continued, “I would like to thank Mike Carey for co-voicing Sonja with me, as well as Mel Rubi for adding the magnificent art that he does, and to Caesar and Richard for making it so damn beautiful, and especially, you, the fans and retailers who have supported us, thank YOU! We could not have done it without you. And I can honestly say ‘the best is yet to come!’”
Red Sonja #0 was the top ordered item in February Previews for April shipping, and featured Greg Land artwork on the cover, along with now impossible to find RRP Editions and other incentives. “It’s great to know that retailers were re-ordering a .25¢ introductory priced book months after its release. It helps us to appreciate that all of the hard work that was put in to the project was well received and that more fans wanted to try it” added J. Allen.
Red Sonja #1 featured cover artists Michael (Superman/Batman Supergirl, Fathom) Turner, John (Astonishing X-Men) Cassaday, Paolo (Mythos) Rivera, Joseph Michael (Dawn, Conan) Linser and Alex (Justice) Ross along with a special Alex Ross Negative Art RRP Edition and other incentives and special editions!
Both issues featured writers Michael Avon (Thor) Oeming and Mike (Hellblazer, Ultimate Elektra) Carey and the art team of artist Mel (X-Men) Rubi and colorists Ceasar (Sojourn) Rodriguez and Richard (Origin, 1602) Isanove!
Fans and retailers can look forward to Red Sonja’s ongoing story to continue in issue #2 shipping later this month!
