Relative Comics, one of the newest and most exciting comic book production studios in the industry, went live on the internet today. It's website, www.relativecomics.com, promises to be the place to go for all things Relative. Relative Comics was founded by Charles Satterlee, who wrote the 1996 mini-series AGONY ACRES. Relative's first two titles, OF BITTER SOULS and SMOKE & MIRROR will be published by another exciting new company, Speakeasy Comics, Inc. (www.speakeasycomics.com).
"We are very proud to include Charles' creations to our stable of titles", exclaimed Adam Fortier, Speakeasy's founder. "OF BITTER SOULS and SMOKE & MIRROR are the type of high quality titles we look for." Speakeasy Comics exploded onto the scene in March by selling out of it's first title, ATOMIKA (www.mercurycomics.com) and seeing great numbers on THE GRIMOIRE. Next month, these two titles will be joined by BEOWULF #1, written by fan favorite, Brian Augustyn.
"I'm very proud of our first two books", said Satterlee, "The creative teams are of the highest caliber."
OF BITTER SOULS (see website for synopsis & covers) will be written by Satterlee while industry legend, Norm Breyfogle (BATMAN, DETECTIVE COMICS, PRIME) will be handling the pencils and inks. Industry "relative" newcomer, Mike "KOJO" Kowalczyk (Cisco Kid, Wyatt Earp, The Phantom) will be laying down dynamic colors. Chuck Maly (ELFQUEST, KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER) will be lettering on both titles. Erik Enervold, founder of The International Comic Arts Association (www.comicarts.org) , will edit both books and will be creating the pre-press look of all Relative titles. OF BITTER SOULS #1 will be solicited by Speakeasy in the June 2005 issue of PREVIEWS for release in August of this year. the first issue features a back cover by POWERS artist, Mike Oeming!
SMOKE & MIRROR (see website for synopsis & covers) will also be written by Satterlee. Claude St. Aubin (THE VICTORIAN, GREEN LANTERN) will pencil the series and Norm's brother, Kevin Breyfogle (GREEN ARROW) will be inking. "This gives a new meaning to our studio name", joked Satterlee. Widely regarded as one of the leading comic book colorists of all time by the COMICS BUYERS GUIDE, Lovern Kidzierski will color the book. SMOKE & MIRROR #1 will be solicited by Speakeasy in the July issue of PREVIEWS for a September release and will feature covers inked by Jimmy Palmiotti, one of the industry's leading creators.
The website also features a 3 minute trailer for OF BITTER SOULS, created by Satterlee's brother, movie industry digital editor & renowned club DJ, Scott Abbott.
