Dabel Brothers Production ("DB Pro") and the creators of ‘Half Dead’, Park Cooper, Barb Lien-Cooper and Jimmy Bott, announced today that the comic book series HALF DEAD will be published through DB Pro this fall in graphic novel format as part of the Dabel Brothers’ new horror line, just in time for Halloween.
HALF DEAD was originally planned to be published through Speakeasy Comics before the publisher closed its doors in a sudden and unfortunate surprise announcement. But while the industry mourns the loss of a publisher that was a shining star to many, the Dabel Brothers have worked behind the scenes to help the creative team behind HALF DEAD to keep the book on track and ready for release.
“We were genuinely impressed with HALF DEAD, and we didn’t want to see the book vanish once Speakeasy announced that it was canceling its titles,” explained Ernst Dabel, President of Dabel Brothers Productions. “Jimmy and his team are doing an amazing job in bringing their story and vision to life, and we feel their book is a good fit for what we’re doing at DB Pro.”
Combining the chills of modern horror with the excitement of cinematic action, HALF DEAD is the story of two conspiracies, human and vampire, fighting for control of London in the present day. Using gas attacks, soldiers, suicide options, religious icons, and inhuman science, both sides struggle to keep their pawns alive and fighting whether they want to or not. One of these pawns, a ballerina named Romany, comes back from certain death in a form that is almost certainly worse than a clean and easy death. But what’s worse, she and the others like her learn that in this war they’re fighting, working for the “good guys” is almost as bad as aligning with the forces of evil.
“Since we started working with DBPro, they have been nothing but supportive and enthusiastic about our project,” explained Jimmy Bott, HALF DEAD’s editor and artist. “[Art Director] Bill Tortolini and Les Dabel have been my main point of contact, and both of them have been great guys and really made me feel at home. I also really enjoy how communicative they are. They are easy to get a hold of and reply very quickly to any inquiries I have. >From what I have experienced so far I think it’s going to be a great partnership.”
The Dabel Brothers plan to release HALF DEAD in a 132 page graphic novel, which will feature the entire story (written by Barb Lien Cooper and Park Cooper) as well as supplemental artwork and covers for each individual chapter produced by established professionals and hot, young newcomers alike. The book will be distributed exclusively through Diamond Book Distributors for a release in the Fall.
“We’re all very pleased to have joined up with DBPro,” continued Bott. “They offer some great books, and that really attracted me to Dabel Brothers, because they seem to be a lot more about quality than quantity. Of course, a big part of their line up are their fantasy adaptations, but I've been looking forward to their creator-owned works as well. “Marshal," in particular, looks like a lot of fun and something I'm definitely picking up!”
