Visual effects company Rhythm & Hues has been appointed the lead studio to bring the Hulk to life in the upcoming The Incredible Hulk film, currently scheduled for a 2008 release.

The Hulk will get a completely new look when compared to the 2003 Hulk movie, directed by Ang Lee, which performed below expectations. In that production, the Hulk was brought to life by Industrial Light + Magic.

Rhythm & Hues, which has experience doing character animation on films like Babe, and most recently, The Chronicles of Narnia, was selected after a long process that included the creation of a CGI Hulk.

Lee Berger, the studio’s film division president, told The Hollywood Reporter: "It's the first time Rhythm & Hues has been able to take a human-like character to its full exposition. There's great enthusiasm for this project (at the company)."

The Incredible Hulk will be directed by Louis Leterrier, with a script by Zak Penn, based on the stories by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.
