The casting call for Marvel Studios’ The Incredible Hulk continues, as Tim Roth has signed on to play Emil Blonsky, alter ego of classic Hulk villain the Abomination.
Roth, who will star later this year in Funny Games and Youth Without Youth, joins a cast that already includes Edward Norton (Bruce Banner/Hulk) and Liv Tyler (Betty Ross). In the character of Blonsky—the Abomination will be CGI-generated, as will the Hulk—Roth portrays an ex-KGB agent who wants to be like the Hulk and goes for a do-over of the same experiment that turned Banner into the jade giant. However, Blonsky takes it to the extreme, and the gamma dose he’s exposed to is so high that he’s no longer able to revert to human form. Frustrated and angry, he’s attempted to take down Bruce Banner/Hulk ever since.
Filming on The Incredible Hulk is scheduled to start this summer in Toronto for a summer 2008 release. Louis Leterrier is directing.
