RUNAWAYS, the award-winning series from Brian K. Vaughan, has been nominated for another award - one that will put the book in the hands of thousands of kids! Runaways Vol. 1: Pride & Joy HC is up for the Georgia Peach Award, where the winners of the award become required reading in the Georgia school system, vastly expanding the audience for this critic- and fan-favorite!
In the nomination letter, the Co-Chairs explained what this award means, "The purpose of the Georgia Peach Award is to highlight and promote the best current young adult literature for Georgia high school age students, to encourage young adults to read and to promote the development of cooperative school and public library services for young adults."
Brian K. Vaughan, who recently wrapped up his run on the title he created, calls the nomination "an incredible honor." This book is no stranger to such awards, as RUNAWAYS fans will remember that this same hardcover collection was the only graphic novel on the Amaerican Library Association's YALSA Top Ten Books for Young Adults list in 2006.
The final digest of Vaughan's run, Runaways Vol. 7: Live Fast, is out this April, and the third volume of the hardcover collection is coming this May, with a brand new cover from series co-creator Adrian Alphona, seen here for the first time!
And, yes, the co-creative team of Vaughan & Alphona may be leaving the book, but they are handing it off to an incredible pair- Joss Whedon (ASTONISHING X-MEN) and Michael Ryan (NEW EXCALIBUR) – who take over the book with Runaways #25, on sale 4/4!
Marvel would like to congratulate Brian K. Vaughan and the entire creative team on their many accomplishments in this landmark series! Keep running!
