With 2005 already looking to be a banner year for their print publications, Silent Devil Productions is also venturing into the world of webcomics, unveiling the new strips OUT OF SEQUENCE by A. David Lewis (Mortal Coils) and Chris Burke (Silent Forest), and SUPER FRAT by Tony DiGerolamo (The Simpsons Comics) and Chris Moreno (Dracula vs. King Arthur).
OUT OF SEQUENCE -- available exclusively online at http://www.SilentDevil.com -- will focus on the daily toils of the Archetype Casting Agency (ACA), a company serving superheroic clients in need of consultation for their flagging comic book careers. “It’s Planetary meets Office Space,” explains series writer A. David Lewis. “And it’s a really fun departure for me, away from my normal gloom & doom of Mortal Coils or serious, mythic stuff like The Lone and Level Sands. OUT OF SEQUENCE is just the combination of normal office misadventures combined with a very peculiar clientele. I think it’ll appear to both superhero comic readers -- of which, I must confess, I am one -- as well as anyone who has had to toil in a cubicle farm.”
Lewis is joined by Silent Devil mainstay Chris Burke, for whom the field of webcomics is also a new endeavor; in fact, while Silent Devil itself hasbeen publishing and growing since 2000, this will be the company’s first ongoing webcomic. “When A. David Lewis presented the script to me I nearlyfell on the floor laughing—it was that funny of a setup,” says Silent Devil Editor-In-Chief Christian Beranek. “Chris Burke’s is at his best with this material, so it was a win-win decision for Adam Beranek (Silent Devil’s President) and I to carry the comic.” Focusing more on the experiences ofACA’s employees than their clients, the strip will be featured free onSilent Devil’s website and marks the first phase of the company’s online revamp.
Now, as for the second phase:
The brothers of Lambda Sigma Rho have signed a deal with comic book publisher Silent Devil to produce the web strip based on their college antics called SUPER FRAT. Located at prestigious Ryesmore University in upstate New York, Lambda Sigma Rho has been given high marks by such magazines as High Times, Hustler Magazine and Hazing Aficionado.
Artist, Chris Moreno, draws the frat’s antics. “The brothers sold my art supplies to buy beer,” said Moreno. “Those &%#$#@$ made me miss the deadline.” Biographer and writer Tony DiGerolamo lived with the brothers for six weeks to get a feel for Greek life. “Those @$$&%%$!” said DiGerolamo. “They borrowed my car and left it full of vomit in Mexico! How do you even fill a car with vomit?!”
Both Moreno and DiGerolamo are contracted for the weekly SUPER FRAT web strip for the foreseeable future. Ryesmore University’s Dean Calfinch, who recently dropped legal action against Silent Devil to stop the strip, had no immediate comment.
OUT OF SEQUENCE and SUPER FRAT begin February 1st and will be updated every Tuesday throughout 2005 at http://www.silentdevil.com.
