In its second weekend, Spider-Man 3 continues to dominate across the US and in international markets. Its domestic gross now stands at over $242 million.
Although the movie did drop 60% since opening on May 4th, it was comparable to the 54% drop of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the previous record holder for biggest US opener ever.
Considering its opening-weekend numbers, it was expected that Sony Pictures’ hit release would do well in its second frame since competition wasn’t exactly stiff. The second film on the charts, Fox Atomic’s 28 Weeks Later, brought in $10 million during its debut weekend.
That is about to change, as the third additions to the Pirates and Shrek franchises are hitting soon.
Internationally, Spider-Man 3 tallied another $85.5 million, exceeding $386 million in foreign markets, and posting a total gross of $628.5 million worldwide.
