Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 3 continues to be the top performer overseas, as it grossed another $49.6 million this past weekend, its third across the globe. It marked a 41% drop, compared to 53% domestically.
The film saw minimal competition, with US heavy-hitter Shrek the Third having opened in just four markets, including a record-setting performance in Russia, with a gross of $13.3 million.
Over the course of a mere 20 days, Spider-Man 3 already has brought in nearly $55 million more than its predecessor did during its entire overseas run. Spider-Man 3 now has generated over 60% of its total gross via international screenings. The $465.1 million gross is enough to overtake The Lion King for the number 17 spot on the foreign rank. The total number now stands at $747 million, number 22 of all time.
