Classic Media and Dynamite Entertainment are proud to announce a new ongoing comic book series featuring the Lone Ranger. The new Dynamite comics will feature the Lone Ranger, Tonto and more characters from the venerable franchise.
The agreement also allows Dynamite to repackage and publish previous Lone Ranger comics material.
The Lone Ranger was an early, long-running radio and television show about a masked cowboy in the Old West, righting injustices, usually with the aid of a clever American Indian called Tonto. The Lone Ranger was created by George W. Trendle and written by Fran Striker.
“To be able to include such a powerful, iconic character to our growing stable of comic book projects is an honor beyond words,” explained Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen. “We’ve talked with two big-name creators now about this project, and hope to announce their involvement in a few short weeks. Once the script and first cover are in, we will solicit. We’re taking the character back down to his roots, and giving fans their first look at an incredible hero. When you think about it, he is the original masked man! Truly, the first super-hero!”
The first of 2,956 episodes of The Lone Ranger aired on radio for the first time on January 30, 1933 on WXYZ radio in Detroit, Michigan and later on the Mutual Broadcasting System radio network. The Lone Ranger became one of the most successful properties on radio.
The radio series also inspired numerous comic books, two movie serials, books, a live action television series (1949-1957) best known for starring Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheels as Tonto, and a Saturday morning animated cartoon. The last time the character appeared on-screen as a major motion picture was in 1981's Legend of the Lone Ranger.
The first issue will be scheduled for release as the series is further along.
