TOKYOPOP, America's number one graphic novel publisher and leader of the Manga Revolution, invites fans to try something a little different when Jen Quick's Off*Beat arrives in stores this fall. Jen is a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York, and she has already impressed a multitude of fans with her artistic and storytelling skills.
Meet 15-year-old Tory Blake, a self-proclaimed genius who is somewhat antisocial and more than a bit cynical about the world. Life is just tedious for Tory...until the day an attractive but secretive boy his own age moves in across the street. Tory becomes obsessed by his mysterious new neighbor and begins documenting his every move. But this pursuit of friendship--and possibly something more--leads Tory to the one thing he wasn't expecting to discover.
Series editor Lillian Diaz-Przybyl relates, "It was thrilling to get a chance to work on Off*Beat with Jen. She had a clear vision of how she wanted this book to be, and it has totally come alive at the tip of her pen. The plot unfolds slowly, tension builds and you learn more of the mysterious Colin's secrets right along with Tory. Don't let the hints of boy/boy romance fool you, either. Jen has done a masterful job of keeping the story subtle, but engaging. Between the high school drama, the mystery and the first buds of a relationship, there's a little something for everyone."
Off*Beat will be available in bookstores everywhere in September 2005.
