October saw the release of IDW Publishing’s The Transformers #0, a value-priced reintroduction to the original “Robots in Disguise” that reached the 100,000 sales plateau for the first time in IDW’s history. And now, plans for multiple Transformers projects in 2006 have materialized as well.
The relaunch begins in earnest with the January releases of The Transformers #1 by writer Simon Furman and artist E.J. Su. Picking up where the 0 issue started, issue one begins the first six-part storyline, “Infiltration.” This storyline brings an all-new take on the Transformers, one that will take the property to heights thus far unimagined. Issue one features a cover from Su, as well as variant covers from beloved Transformers artists Guido Guidi, Andrew Wildman, and James Raiz.
Following that launch, in February, Transformers: Beast Wars #1, also written by Furman and featuring the dynamic artist stylings of Don Figueroa, debuts as the first part of a four-issue miniseries entitled “The Gathering.” It’s a story years in the making, as Furman and Figueroa are finally turned loose on the Beast Wars universe. To properly demonstrate his level of excitement, issue one features four covers from Figueroa, one of which will be available as a gatefold wraparound image.
“Other Transformers plans are afoot for 2006 as well,” said IDW’s Publisher, Editor-in-Chief and erstwhile Transformer ChrisCharger Ryall, “but more on those as we enter 2006. For now, these projects should whet the appetites of Transformers fans everywhere.”
The Transformers #1 debuts in January 2006 and The Transformers: Beast Wars #1 debuts in February ’06. Both books are 32-page, full-color comics priced at $2.99.
