Broken Frontier

Just one week after the launch of Street Fighter II #1, both the Alvin Lee and Ed McGuinness covers have completely sold out at Diamond, despite significant overprinting.  Also sold out is the first issue of UDON’s new fantasy title, EXALTED, based on White Wolf’s popular RPG franchise.

“We are extremely happy with the fan response to our new #1s, especially considering this is UDON’s maiden voyage into self-publishing,” says UDON’s Chief of Operations, Erik Ko.  “Now we’ll continue to try our best to make sure the quality of our books keep readers coming back for more!”

Ko credits the brisk sales not only to the special $1.99 Street Fighter II #0, but to heavy cross promotions between UDON and both its licensors, Capcom and White Wolf.  “Both these licensors have been among the best UDON has ever dealt with,” notes Ko.  “With their cooperation, we’ve placed links and news updates on their sites and ads in their products, continuing UDON’s commitment to attracting customers from outside the traditional comic market into comic stores.”

UDON will be quickly going back to press on both sold out titles to fulfill demand and will be providing new covers for the second printings.  EXALTED #1 2nd Printing will feature a new cover by RPG fan-favorite artist Chris Stevens (which will include the entire cast of Exalted Solars), while STREET FIGHTER II #1 2nd Printing will have a new cover by Alvin Lee featuring SAGAT!  The new Sagat cover will replace the Ed McGuinness cover and can be linked with SFII #1 Cover A (RYU).

UDON will also be extending the recently announced Street Fighter II RAW Edition incentive offer to retailers for second printing orders.  Beginning with SF II #1, for every 15 copies ordered, retailers will receive a complimentary RAW edition of that issue (while quantities last), featuring completely unaltered penciled line art, the complete script and running commentary by the artist and writer.

Both titles will continue to be promoted online, with the main stories from STREET FIGHTER II #0 and EXALTED #0 available online in their entirety so that fans can preview each series for absolutely FREE!
