From Comica Festival 2011 and Respect! Films:
Saturday November 12th 2011, Comica 2011 Festival London:
Lenny Henry interviews superstar comics writer Warren Ellis and introduces UK Premiere of new Warren Ellis documentary movie, 'Captured Ghosts'
Much-loved comedian, actor and TV presenter Lenny Henry is a life-long comics fan and the writer of his very own graphic novel - the wacky autobiographical comedy The Quest for the Big Woof drawn by Steve Parkhouse and published by Penguin. Lenny has kindly agreed to interview superstar comics scripter Warren Ellis. Ellis's groundbreaking body of work in comics includes The Authority, Planetary, Transmetropolitan, FreakAngels, as well as X-Men, Secret Avengers and Ultimate titles for Marvel Comics, and Red, adapted into a blockbuster movie starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman.
Ellis rarely makes public appearances but has agreed to take part in Comica Festival 2011 on Saturday, 12 November 2011. Doors open from 7pm in the Great Hall of the Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate, London EC2, a few minutes from Liverpool Street Station, after the free all-day Comica Comiket comics fair. Lenny & Warren's Comica Conversation will be followed by the UK premiere screening of Captured Ghosts, Patrick Meaney’s revealing documentary about Ellis’s career, a feature-length movie in which Lenny Henry also appears (see details below).
Tickets for the whole evening, covering both the interview and the movie, cost £8.00 plus 10% booking fee (or 80 pence) online from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/140058
Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts features the most extensive interview ever given by Ellis, spanning from his first memory watching the moon landing as a child to the recent box-office success of the Hollywood adaptation of RED. Ellis’s acerbic wit and core belief in humanity come across like never before, revealing the unique point of view that has made him such a pivotal and influential figure to his massive audience of artists, journalists, scientists, and fans.
Along with Warren, the film features:
· Academy Award-winner Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen, RED),
· Comedian and actor Lenny Henry (The Comic Strip, Neverwhere)
· Joss Whedon (director, The Avengers, creator, Buffy the Vampire Slayer),
· Grant Morrison (All Star Superman, New X-Men, The Invisibles)
· Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, The King of Queens),
· Joe Quesada (Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment),
· Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation),
· Matt Fraction (writer, Casanova, Invincible Iron Man),
· Darick Robertson (illustrator, Transmetropolitan, The Boys),
· Ben Templesmith (illustrator, 30 Days of Night, Fell),
· Brea Grant (Heroes, Dexter),
· Claudio Sanchez (Coheed & Cambria),
· Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy),
· Stoya (adult film star), and a
· Warren Ellis puppet!
Directed by Patrick Meaney, Captured Ghosts is the follow-up to Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods, which Variety said “will intrigue the previously unconverted” and Wired called “an instant classic.”
