Online retailer andICAA member X-RAY COMICS recently made its quarterly comic book donation under the banner of The International Comic Arts Association's (ICAA) "Comics Outreach Program". On March 4th, X-ray Comics owner, Ronald Pruitt, traveled to the Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses to make a donation of new graphic novels and other comics to the institution. The graphic novels will be placed in the library at the facility while the individual comic books donated will be put to use as giveaways and gifts for the children currently staying at the Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses. The donation included kid-friendly titles such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Teen Titans Go, X-men Evolution, Marvel Age Hulk and many others.
Wes Logue, the Director of Development with Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses, responds to the donation. "At the Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses families can enjoy all the comforts of home, receive nutritious meals and obtain emotional support through contact with other families experiencing similar situations. Gifts-in-Kind such as this wonderful donation of books are a wonderful addition to this experience and truly create an atmosphere of a "Home Away From Home" for the children and families who stay here for days, weeks and even months. Since 1979 we have hosted more than 30,000 families who come to Atlanta-area hospitals to have their children treated for cancer and other serious illnesses or injuries. Generous supporters like Ron Pruitt and X-Ray Comics help us continue our mission of working to improve the health and well-being of children."
ICAA Executive Director, Erik Enervold, had this to add. "On behalf of the ICAA, I would like to again thank and commend Ronald Pruitt and X-Ray Comics for their continued efforts to support their local charities using comics and graphic novels. It is actions such as these that serve to put the comic book industry and the artform in a positive light. Further, we are flattered that Ronald has chosen to make these continued donations in the name of the ICAA's Comic Outreach Program and we thank him and his company for their continued support. We hope Ronald's actions will serve to inspire other retailers and professionals to use comic books to reach out to groups in their own communities to put a little joy in peoples lives as only comics can."
X-ray Comics has pledged to set aside five percent of every purchase made at www.x-raycomics.com specifically towards purchasing new comic books and graphic novels that will be donated to charities or schools in the Atlanta area four times a year. These donations are in support of the International Comic Arts Association (ICAA) Comics Outreach Program. Comics donated include age appropriate material and are targeted to reach new readers through local charities supporting children or young adults. Ronald states "We appreciate all our customers that shopped with us in the fourth quarter of 2004, making this donation to Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses possible."
