It’s impossible to know if the talent of Geoff Johns is purely inherent, or if some of Allan Heinberg’s creativity has rubbed off on him after spending countless hours working in the Empath Magic Tree House. But there is one tidbit of information that is certain: this guy is good, and there is not a doubt that he has earned Broken Frontier’s Best Mainstream Writer award.

Geoff Johns loves comics, and he loves to write comics. It’s a gig countless fanboys would kill for, but it’s a gig countless fanboys cannot fill. Johns is one of those rare exceptions, being a writer who gives the audience what they need rather than what they want. His résumé is all over the place, but Johns’ imagination ultimately shines brightest in the DC universe. He’s brought us revitalized characters, such as the Flash and the Green Lantern, and is currently enjoying himself while shaking up the cosmos as the architect behind Blackest Night.
But Johns’ true talent is channeling vigorous enjoyment into his books. There’s never a dull moment in his stories, and he’s always pushing himself to reintroduce the characters we all know and love in fresh and exciting ways.
