Though it appear to just be starting up, Call to Heroes looks like it could be a major webcomic to be reckoned with – in terms of premise and design. You can tell just by looking at it – even if it just started less than a week ago.
That’s a lot of hype, so here’s the rest of it – Call to Heroes still has a long way to go, but it’s made quite an effort so far. Here’s the pitch: super-heroes exist in the world, striving to make their own destiny, and Preston Graves (along with his yet-to-be-introduced sister Gwen) seek to join their number. And that’s roughly about it so far – there are only three pages and a bare-boned web page.
But what Call to Heroes lacks in content, it makes up for in style. The entire home page is currently set up like a newspaper, complete with its own original header – the Gentlemanly Press – and articles positioned all around the newspaper. As I’ve said numerous times before, the effort webcomickers set into their work can put professional comics to shame. As with here, the level of detail is astounding, giving the reader a fresh window into Shane Warren and Brandon Bahr’s exhaustive super-hero debut.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing else to the website as the moment – no links, no profiles, and not even e-mail addresses for the creators. Webcomics are at their core a work-in-progress, so the absence of these things aren’t bad in and of themselves, but the lack of link leads does limit how far readers can draw themselves into the world of Call to Heroes – what you see on the home page is pretty much the entire site.
Ultimately, Call to Heroes is a webcomic to keep your eye on – though the website is missing a lot, it practically oozes potential all over the place.
