Sins of the father will be visited upon the son. Part of this family?s legacy is the villain identity, Abyss. With Father ?retired?, will Son take up the mantle?

An interesting piece having to do with the struggles of a failing relationship between father and son, Abyss #2 features young Eric trying to right one of his father?s final wrongs, as last issue showed the original villainous Abyss faked his death. Eric, as the new Abyss, seems not to see super villainy as part of his future.

This issue is incredibly well-written, as Kevin Rubio shows off his wonderful gift for witty dialogue. Very natural sounding banter makes this book a very comfortable and easy read. In addition, the artwork by Lucas Marangon is great. Cartoony and full of life, it fits this off-beat super hero tale perfectly.

The dichotomy between the original Abyss? (Raifer Hoffman) over-the-top villainy and young Eric?s naivety and uncertainty as a new super hero is very well laid. Due to the constant communication between the Abysses, the reader can tell that Raifer is doing bad things, but sees himself as correct and justified. At the same time, Eric tries to fight the good fight, but all the while is full of self-doubt.

The additions of The Arrow and Quiver to the cast are quite welcome, as they add another dimension to the world this comic is trying to create as well as Eric Hoffman himself. They make for very suitable ?straight? characters in this story. The mystery of Eric?s father and his ?guest? are also progressing quite well.

This is yet another impressive book to come out of Red 5 Comics. The quality of story and art are surely up to par with any books currently on the market. This issue?s ending leaves the story wide open to go in several directions, all of which look to be entertaining.

Abyss comes very highly recommended if you?re looking for a funny super hero book with fantastic art.
