Broken Frontier

Another great chapter in Geoff Johns' character focused Aquaman.

Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis take Arthur Curry from one extreme to the opposite in issue #5 of Aquaman.  The mariner finds himself in one of the most dire of environments, confronted by the haunting memory of his past, and shocked by the secret history of Atlantis.

Geoff Johns continues to pen his greatest material in Aquaman.  The hero himself continues to struggle against cynical public perception, all the while protecting the DC Universe’s coast line from underwater threats.  With an epic air battle leaving him stranded in the middle of an endless dessert, the dehydrated and delirious Aquaman finds himself confronted by the unlikeliest of visions that has come to challenge everything Aquaman believes.  Once the hero dispels the challenging hallucination, he stumbles upon a secret recording of Atlantis’ past, a hidden mystery the hero never knew existed.  Seeming to build off the threat of Aquaman’s first arc, it is clear there is more to be seen in the depths of the ocean. 

Johns continues to pack each and every issue of Aquaman with high-octane energy scenes as well as solid character building.  Arthur Curry is dismissed by fans and the DC Universe alike, an opinion Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis clearly want to change.  Aquaman #5 was not only a fun ride, but continues to build upon the mystery and mythos of the famed Atlantis.
