Considering that when this event first started, I had never read any Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy, nor had any real history with the Marvel cosmic characters, The Thanos Imperative has quickly become not only a contender for my favourite series of 2010 but is easily the book at the top of my pile every month.
This issue moves the story thundering forward – and it’s moving like a freight train about to derail! The cosmic avengers took the fight to Lord Mar-Vell’s doorstep, something that he wasn’t best pleased with… and it wasn’t because they all forgot to wipe their feet on the way in.
While the action has somewhat shifted away from the frontlines, there has been no dip in the excitement. For those of you waiting for Thanos to really let loose, this is the issue for you, and by the looks of things to come, this is only the beginning.
Abnett and Lanning are pulling off this complex story with ease. Without tie in books or even any characters with on-goings to drag the story out, The Thanos Imperative is a stand-alone event that makes every convoluted story that’s come before it sit in the corner of the room with a dunce cap on. The story is tight and the dialogue is snappy. The characters each have their own voice and it’s simply a pleasure to read.
If the writers have anything to say for themselves or any story ideas to cram in then they have to do it within the two issues remaining. This is quite exhilarating to read. It’s one of the best comics on the stands – don’t be a fool, get involved while everyone is still talking. The series is almost over… I can hardly contain my excitement!
