The X-Men clean up after the Dark Angel Saga in a tale juicy with tension.
The X-Men must investigate the nature of a strange anomaly left behind after Uncanny X-Force’s Dark Angel Saga. What used to be a small town in Montana is now a dense jungle that has evolved 130 million years into the future. This is an excellent issue in terms of cleverly bridging the gaps with other titles. There are mentions of Uncanny X-Force, Fear Itself, Schism, and even some foreshadowing for this year’s Avengers vs. X-Men event. It’s a good time to be an X-Men fan.
Greg Land’s pencils are stunning to look at. He manages to create some breathtaking visuals in the strange new land, but somehow he manages to make shots of the characters look more impressive still. Psylocke is sly and sexy, Storm radiates power and beauty, and Scott looks as stubborn and determined as ever. Land brings these characters to life and complements Kieron Gillen’s excellent scripting perfectly. Psylocke is on X-Force, so watching her play dumb in front of her teammates adds an extra layer of tension on top of the proceedings. Land gives her a small smirk and Gillen delivers a nice tongue-in-cheek line: “I’ll be on as many teams as it takes. Logan made it look so easy.”
