Venom #13

Credits

  • Art: Tony Moore
  • Colors: Val Staples
  • Publisher: Marvel Comics
  • Price: $3.99
  • Release Date: Feb 1, 2012

The Circle of Four event begins with Rick Remender’s breakneck plotting.

I have got to admit, when I first heard that Venom, Red Hulk, X-23, and the female Ghost Rider were going to have a mini-event in order to hearken back to the New Fantastic Four featuring Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider, I was skeptical. In their own books, these characters have all been put on a path to Las Vegas for one reason or another, and this initial issue shows the fireworks that go off when they meet.

It’s a fast and furious encounter that operates sometimes at the expense of clarity and logic, but Rick Remener is at his best when the plot is moving at breakneck speed. It makes for a fun read with bite-sized chunks of characterization and drama because, let’s face it, there’s a lot to cram into this initial issue. Normally it’s unpleasant to hear a comic was bumped up to $3.99, but here it is thankful because it allows for Remender to have the space he needs to tell the story. The anti-heroes have gathered and an interesting villain has been established, and more so than Marvel’s Fear Itself or its upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men, this feels like an event worth reading.

Tony Moore's art was incredible as always. He truly is one of the best Marvel's got, and it always brings a smile to my face when he teams up with Remender.
