Rob Williams takes over on this fun and hellish event.
Blackheart has caused Hell to erupt out of Las Vegas and now four anti-heroes - Venom, Red Hulk, X-23, and the female Ghost Rider - are forced to work together to stop its spread. Venom scribe Rick Remender kicked off this Circle of Four event, but now Ghost Rider writer Rob Williams has taken over to complete the tale. The result is a fun look at the Antitheses and what they mean to each hero, but the overall effort lacks Remender’s nuanced dialogue and heart-pounding pacing that made the cramped-yet-entertaining first issue such a success.
The design of the Antitheses makes for a unique dilemma for each hero to solve. The smiley blond cheerleader with sharp metallic pom-poms is easily the most disturbing, but the giant brain creature made to thwart Red Hulk is also as creepy as he is poignant for the character. Each hero is brought down to their lowest point in this issue, so naturally any reader would assume that next issue they will overcome their Antitheses and be one step forward to overcoming Blackheart. It is an age-old formula that this event will hopefully not fall into.
