LDCOMICS ONLINE COMIC FAIR 2025! Ky Lawrence graduated from Norwich University of the Arts, he is an animator with an impressive list of highly-stylized self-published comics, as well as contributions to anthologies such as kuš’s š! #51: Mindfulness, Bosh Zine Volume 5: Lawless, and Sigar Mag Volume 1.
The plot of Ky Lawrence’s Dream Machine is basically scientist Dr. Randall Fishwick trying to resurrect his twin Rory who has passed away from cancer. The best science fiction stories are not so clear cut, however. Dr Randall is consumed with guilt which drives him to extreme action. Monkeys, Bobo and WeeWee, figure into the surreal story, as well!
Lawrence’s art is whimsical and grim, realistic and abstract. All through the book his art and layouts change to fit the mood of the scene or panel. We go from a nine “panel” map of the origin of Randall and Rory from zygote to separation of the twins before birth, to a quite figurative page as a fight for identity manifests as the main character pulling his face open to reveal an infinite aperture. All of these different styles work perfectly together to further the narrative in a fresh way.
In Dream Machine, Ky Lawrence delivers an intensely drawn science fiction story that hearkens back to the pulp days of the genre, while in the process standing any cliches on their head. This gem is available only in July at the LDComics Online Comics Fair,. Check it out soon time is running out!
