Resource Lists

Broken Frontier strives to be an inclusive platform reflecting and celebrating the diversity of the form and its practitioners. Our internal coverage policies are designed to prioritise diverse voices and work that spotlights marginalised communities wherever possible. You can read our team statement on this here. To that end we are also building up relevant resource lists of comics that communicate those stories.

This is a work-in-progress so rest assured that there are a number of other resource lists currently being worked on to be added here at a later date. Click on each title below to access the relevant list.

Our resource lists are part of our #BrokenFrontierConnects initiative.

Black History and Black Lives

Work that showcases both Black lives and Black history whether that be through biography, journalism, interviews, social commentary or genre fiction.

Climate Change and the Environment

We are beyond ecological crisis and on the brink of environmental collapse. This list compiles resources including graphic journalism, graphic allegory, classic cartoon collections and social activism.

Comics and Islam

A list of comics by Muslim creators exploring Islam from both autobiographical and fictional perspectives.

Disability – Physical, Developmental and Dementia

Graphic medicine is a huge strand of comics storytelling. In this list we compile comics resources that deal with physical disability alongside developmental ones. Both real accounts and fictional treatments are included here.

Jewish Lives

Jewish lives in comics from the autobiographical through to the historical.

LGBTQ+ Comics

Our huge list of LGBTQIA+ comics covered at Broken Frontier. Fiction and autobio dealing with lesbian, gay, trans and asexual experiences.

Mental Health Awareness

Graphic novels, short comics and graphic memoirs examining our relationships with our mental health from multiple lived experiences.

Neurodiversity

From minicomics to anthology collections from multiple voices, all comics work here that touches on themes of neurodivergence can be found on this list.

Palestine

Accounts from both first hand sources and observers on the plight of the Palestinian people both before and during the genocide in Gaza.

Pandemic Comics

Comics has provided a vital social record of the pandemic and what we have lived through over the last four years. All our coverage is collected here.

The Refugee Crisis

The media’s appalling demonisation of refugees is shameful. In this list we collect stories both first-hand and composite that underline the tribulations of those escaping oppression and disaster.

Social Reform

Our catch-all resource list for social issues including class, the trade union movement, anti-capitalism, protest, police brutality, issues surrounding gentrification, and anti-fascism.

Trans and Non-Binary Stories

All our trans and non-binary comics are also included in our LGBTQIA+ resource list. But to support our trans community in these times of great adversity we have also included them in a separate list here.
