Three cool new projects coming from Limit Break Comics this Summer…
Irish Comic Collective Limit Break Comics have announced three new books to launch at Dublin Comic Con in August 2025.
Limit Break Comics, the award-winning collective best known for its myth anthologies, has announced three new books to launch at Dublin Comic Con on August 9th – 10th 2025. The books include the third issue of Meouch – an action-comedy about a gun-toting cat assassin from Paul Carroll and Gareth Luby – alongside The Dark in the Tower from Seamus Kavanagh, John McGuinness and Alice Coleman, and Irish Conflict in Comics from James Bacon, the first historical commentary on the perception and inclusion of Irish conflict through the medium of comics.
Meouch first hit shelves in 2019, with the Comic Book Yeti saying it “playfully walks the line between noir mystery and fun story with a talking cat… an absolute pleasure to read,” and Geek Ireland adding that it is “colourful, vibrant, and a joy to read.” The first arc, The Nine Lives, written by Paul Carroll and drawn by Gareth Luby, has included Joe Griffin and Rebecca Nalty on colours, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou and Rob Jones on letters. The third issue brings the arc to a close, with blood, guts and cat nip.
The Dark in the Tower is Seamus Kavanagh’s first one-shot with Limit Break Comics since he joined in 2022, on which he is joined by John McGuinness and Alice Coleman. Kavanagh describes the book as “an obscure quest through a medieval world that follows a Peasant as they journey somewhere they should not, in pursuit of what they, perhaps, shouldn’t seek.”
James Bacon’s Irish Conflict in Comics is Limit Break Comics’ first extended non-fiction title, covering decades of Irish representation in comics. Bacon is best known for his Hugo and Alfie award-winning work on Journey Planet. As part of the launch for the book, he is participating in The National Library of Ireland’s Comics at the National Library of Ireland event on August 8th, 2025. NLI served as a focus of research on the project.
On Saturday, August 9th, Bacon will also run a talk at Dublin Comic Con about the materials from the National Library of Ireland. This will be followed by a panel led by Kavanagh, joined by Carroll, Luby and Coleman as they discuss the creative processes in putting together comics. Kavanagh will take to the stage again on Sunday, August 10th, to discuss early artist careers with established franchises, to be joined by Reese Hannigan (Star Wars: The Bad Batch) and Patrick Mulholland (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid).
