Is there anyone in UK comics who thinks more deeply about taking comics into new spaces and finding uses of the form that push at its boundaries and tug at the established rules than Karrie Fransman (Death of the Artist, PositiveNegatives)? Karrie’s latest project The Tale Spinner will be at Thought Bubble in the Bubbleboy Hall over the convention weekend. Not be missed as an in-person experience at TB, this is another unique experimental Fransman comics performance project and we have more details of it from the artist herself below…

IRL COMICS AND VISUAL STORYTELLING FOR AN AI ERA (2025)
I was awarded a ‘Develop Your Creative Practice’ Arts Council England grant to research and develop an immersive peepshow/3D comic tilted the ‘Tale Spinner’ that can’t be replicated by Al. This 3D comic will engage audiences ‘In Real Life’ (IRL) without a screen between them and the art, centralising the human experience. I have been researching peep shows and pre-cinema visual stories from the 18th/19th Century and also interactive, immersive and digital visual stories (VR, AR and AI technologies).
