Just a reminder that the second meeting of the Comics Cultural Impact Collective is scheduled for the evening of May 7th, 2024. This is such an important initiative with a mission to improve things for UK comics on multiple levels. Read the report from the first meeting at the link below and then book your place for the next round of conversations!
The Comics Cultural Impact Collective ONLINE ROUNDTABLE PART 2
Are we the old lady in front of you at the till? Because we are bringing change.
As you may have seen in the report from our first roundtable back in January, things in the UK comics scene could be better!
We’re holding a second online discussion event on TUESDAY 7th MAY at 7.30pm, to bring people together again and kickstart conversations around how we might improve the situation. Conversations which may lead to schemes. Schemes which can then be supported through actual funding. (For you, potentially?)
We’ll be hosting the following breakout rooms for you to choose from:
Comics in education (schools, higher/further education, formal & informal settings)
Comics publishing (publishers, booksellers, reviewers, distributors, libraries, etc)
Comics as communication / applied comics (ie. storyboarding, graphic scribing, comics journalism, graphic medicine, academic, policy & science engagement etc)
Support for comics creators (increased opportunities, financial & legal advice, career advice, training, wellbeing, pastoral care)
Support for comics orgs / infrastructure (festivals, shops, websites, journalists, museums/archives etc)
**Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainability will be a component of every room.
One thing we’ve come to realise is that the wealth of expertise and enthusiasm across the comics scene is phenomenal. We hope that by throwing you all together, like atoms deep in the bowels of Switzerland, we might be able to create something a bit incendiary…
