THOUGHT BUBBLE 2026! SHP (Shawn Hainsworth Productions) Comics has released a number of genre comics: Woodstake, Zicky, B.O. Wolf, Sight, The Killing Machine and, debuting at Thought Bubble, Erotech: The Collected Edition, bringing together the five-issue series under one cover.
There’s NSFW and then there’s malfunctioning AI sex robots doing unspeakable things, that’s where we start off in the first chapter of Sean Haines and Geoffrey Krawczyk’s Erotech. Project manager Samantha observes a test of EroTech’s Model 6000 sex robot simulator, when it glitches and assaults the tester, Steve. The fallout from the failed test leads up to Samantha’s meeting with her hilariously incompetent team as she tries to lead a presentation on her proposal for the L-1000, a lesbian sex robot, which her co-workers can not wrap their immature heads around. After a brief venting session with her friend in customer support, Samantha heads back for another meeting with her fairly useless team to figure out how to proceed from the failed test. The cycle of tests, meetings and office politics ratchets up further and further into abject lunacy.
Haines uses the day-to-day realities of modern office work with its soul-crushing endless meetings and savage scrambling up and down the corporate ladder, nicely transferring them to a near future science fiction setting. There’s some not so subtle social commentary on women in the workplace as Samantha’s struggles with incompetent bosses and teammates are funny in a broad, cringe-inducing way. Haines does go subtle in his exploration of sex in society, he deftly uses Samantha as a focus for the theory that the sex robots will remove the power men have over women in sexual relationships by removing sex altogether from relationships. It’s a pretty radical idea, but not the only one threaded through these pages.
For us however, the real highlight of EroTech is Geoffrey Krawczyk’s depiction of this retro future world. Berlin artist Krawczyk was educated at the University of Oklahoma and SUNY, University of Buffalo and has worked as an art instructor on the college and university levels and currently is Vice-president at a commercial art firm. Krawczyk’s art is cartoony in a way that emphasizes the absurdity in the premise, but de-emphasizes the sexuality just enough to edge EroTech over the line from pornography to satire. By turns, frenetic and mundane, Krawczyk’s art brings both office humor, and outrageous sexual product trials, alive in a humorous manner (with an undercurrent of menace, as well).
The overall atmosphere of Haines and Krawczyk’s Erotech is unusually colored in a throwback CMYK dot pattern, like you would see in a romance comic from simpler times. It’s the dichotomy of the old-fashioned coloring style used for a sex romp that adds strength to the narrative. Additionally, the bright color used for the control experiment scenes changes into darker, sickly shades of blue and green when the subjects are threatened by the malfunctioning Model 6000.
Far from being just another indie adult comic, EroTech actually puts forth a well thought-out viewpoint, with compelling artwork that tells the story in a unique way.
