“If your concept of prgress doesn’t put people at the center of it, is it even progress?”
Last year at BF we reviewed Tom Humberstone’s collection of comics social commentary I’m a Luddite (And So Can You!) here on the site. Today, as part of our ongoing ‘Raging Against the Machine’ series on AI “art” and comics we’re delighted to be able to publish the entire lead story from that anthology. Dealing, as it does, with the emergence of AI art, Luddism, activism and what we can do to resist an automated future it’s a hugely relevant strip. We’re very grateful to Tom for offering it up for your perusal!
We have never shied away from acknowledging the debt BF owes to Tom whose inspirational Solipsistic Pop anthology series was crucial in shaping our evolution as a comics commentary outlet a decade and a half ago or so. This comic originally appeared on The Nib and you can buy a copy of the collection it comes from in print here. Please do… you won’t regret it! You can also visit Tom’s website here and find his newsletter here.
If you would like to contribute to this series please refer to the guidelines article here. We will be back next week with more individual comments from across the community, and look out for another Tom Humberstone essay entry as part of ‘Raging Against the Machine’ very soon.
