We’re delighted to present another panel video from this year’s Caption Festival today. Thanks to Caption’s Andy Luke for providing the information on ‘Sustaining Safe Spaces’ below.
Sustaining Safe Spaces (55m)
With creators more visible than ever, there is an increased risk of abuse at conventions and online. Panelists Dominique Duong, Steve Tanner and Emily Brady and chair Andrew Luke explore healthier environments at ground level and through systemic change.
The safe spaces panel brought a lot of issues to the fore. We learned of initiatives and ideas to be acted upon, things which ought to be prominent in an ongoing conversation. Each member of the Caption committee had their own passion project. Barry Renshaw pushed for the Broken Frontier panel. This was mine, born as a victim of bullying at cons and online as well as prejudiced economic practices we discuss. I was keen for the talk not to be a list of past grievances but to look forward to change the system. The creators on the panel were of the same mind and there’s a lot of resources shared. We were so fortunate to have this and I hope this panel is seen by a lot more people.
