It’s the beginning of the month so once again it’s time for another of our looks at behind-the-scenes at Broken Frontier Towers, sometimes with a thought or two about current events in the comics world. Firstly, last month’s piece on our zero tolerance policy to generative AI “art” was one of our most read pieces of the last few years.
There were just two articulated objections to it and only one of those was from the pro-AI side. The other, bizarrely, was a livid complaint that we aren’t doing enough to speak out against AI. Yes, you read that right. The comics commentary site tackling this the most vocally is apparently also the one that’s the biggest slacker! We really can’t win.
Onto this month’s talking points and I am delighted to introduce you to four new Broken Frontier team members, taking our numbers up to ten. But first a little shout-out for our next event coverage month here at BF…
Pride Month 2026 at Broken Frontier

Every year at BF we run Pride Month coverage on the site. As regular readers know our writing about queer comics projects is an all-year round objective but in June we push the boat out and go the extra distance, aiming to get one LGBTQIA+ piece up every posting day. This year we want to put more of a focus on work showcasing comics detailing the lived experiences of our queer comics community. Last week I put a shout out for potential subjects for short e-mail interviews. You can read that here. Do get in touch and we’ll do our very best to make that happen for you.
New Team Members at Broken Frontier!
And we’re back to double figures for the first time since the early months of the pandemic. Absolutely delighted to officially give the heartiest welcome to our four newest members of the Broken Frontier family. More details on our Contact Us page here where I’ve cut and pasted their bios from.
Kay Sohini

Kay Sohini is an Asian American writer and artist based in New York. She holds a PhD in English from Stony Brook University, where her research focused on Graphic Medicine. Her work has been published in The Washington Post, The Nib, and Inside Higher Ed, amongst others. Her debut book, This Beautiful, Ridiculous City, which grapples with the promises and pitfalls of New York from an immigrant perspective, was published in 2025 by Jonathan Cape.
She is currently working on a comic cookbook for Ten Speed Graphic, a picture book for Kokila, and a graphic novel for Abrams.
Andrea Magbual

Andrea Magbual (aka Andri, Dri, and somehow Ramon) is wondering how much comics and art events coverage it takes until she becomes “the best to ever do it”.
Broken Frontier hosts some of her first professional work, and she’s eager to keep expanding her review portfolio.
Webcomics and Sunday newspaper-esque gag comics are where her heart lies, if her heart isn’t beating too fast from running up and down an artist alley.
Harish P. I

Harish is a mechanical engineer and an avid reader from India with a sustained interest in contemporary literature. A fan of superhero comics since childhood, he discovered the true power of graphic novels after reading Maus by Art Spiegelman. His reviews have appeared on online platforms such as The Wise Owl and in print journals including Thodayam, published by the Kerala Fine Arts Society.
Lara Boyle
Lara Boyle holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she studied autobiographical comics and made a graphic memoir. She has a BA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. Her comics journalism has appeared in Solrad Literary Magazine for Comics and The Southern Review of Books. Her comics have appeared in Atlantis Magazine. She’s probably making comics.
Next month we’ll be back as Pride Month commences at BF…
