So… the very briefest of Andytorials this month because we are soooooooo busy at Broken Frontier Towers right now. Events on the site and events off the site have precedence. A quick mention too that there was no edition last month simply because my intro to our Pride Month coverage at BF covered everything I would have said anyway.
ARC Festival Coverage at BF
Poster by Lando
The event coverage we didn’t foreshadow! Observant Frontierspeople will have noticed that on Monday of this week material started appearing on the site with the tag ‘ARC FESTIVAL!’ introducing it. For the two weeks preceding the ARC Festival fair on July 11th-12th we’ll be running another special coverage event full of reviews and features for this rather epic new festival. You can see all the ARC articles here in one place if you’re a bookmarking kinda person.
The line-up for ARC is just astonishingly cool, very much paralleling the kind of work you see here every week at BF. And we’re delighted to say that there will be a Broken Frontier ‘Six to Watch’ table at the fair too, with different line-ups of creators from across the years on the Saturday and Sunday. So worth visiting us both days! We will reveal who and when closer to the date.
Student Shows Season

It’s that time of year when many university courses that include comics practice will invite me along to their events. I love interacting with students because it gives us ever more options when it comes to choosing ‘Six to Watch’ creators at the end of the year. Indeed, one of this year’s six was chosen because they approached me for advice before graduation and I liked the look of the work I saw.
So, teaching staff do not forget that I am available in an industry visit-style way to talk to your students about building a profile and an audience for their practice if you want to approach me. More details here. A number of institutions have taken us up on this (usually multiple times) and said how valuable it was to their students.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been to both the undergrad and postgrad Camberwell College of Arts shows and found some very cool practice (examples above!), some of which will definitely feature here at BF in due course. Great to see BF faves Joe Kessler, Francis Todd and Skai Campbell at the Camberwell dos as well.
I promised it would be a quick one this month. See you in August at the beginning of our Fantagraphics at 50 month of coverage.
