So that was Fantagraphics at 50! Month at Broken Frontier…
We managed to post 34 reviews, interviews and exclusive previews across August to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Fantagraphics and, while as ever my natural instincts are to think “if only we could have done more”, on reflection I think that was a pretty good effort all round. Huge thanks to all the creators who spoke to us, to Tucker at Fanta for being such an approachable and helpful point of contact in facilitating things, and especially to Swati Nair, Gary Usher and Lydia Turner on the BF team for all their hard work on this.

Fantagraphics at 50! was the fourth major Broken Frontier event in the space of three months for us after Pride Month in June, ARC Festival coverage in July, and Lydia and I working so hard on Small Press Day 2026. So it’s been an intense few months for us. And there’s no respite now because we have already started working on Thought Bubble Month 2026.
With that in mind we will be putting up some guidelines this week so you know how to approach us for your Thought Bubble-debuting comics review requests and potential interview features. Last year we managed a frankly astonishing 75 articles for Thought Bubble Month 2025. Can we make it 100 this year? We shall see…

Other places you can see Broken Frontier out in the wild in the coming months include Zinezilla in Bristol on September 12th where we will have a ‘Six to Watch’ table. You know that means quality comics and I will also be on hand if any emerging creators want to chat about their work with me. More details on the site soon.

And then for the first weekend in October it’s off to Kendal for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF). The programme is up on the festival site and I’m delighted to say I will be hosting/moderating three different events/panels. There will also be no less than eight Broken Frontier ‘Six to Watch’ artists tabling in the comics market. We’ll cover all of that in a separate post soon at BF. But it’s going to be an exciting weekend for the extended Broken Frontier family!
Until next time, when we’ll be on the cusp of Thought Bubble Month 2026, I’ll leave you with this parting thought…
