The phenomenon that is Tillie Walden burst onto our comics consciousness this year with her breathtakingly assured first graphic novel The End of Summer. The book – brought to us by Avery Hill, that now integral part of the UK comics publishing scene – was released to huge critical acclaim and I said of it here at Broken Frontier: “You’re unlikely to read anything else this year that so fully manipulates the pure mechanics of the comics form to the degree that The End of Summer does. It really is that remarkable a piece of work and Tillie Walden really is that remarkable a prospect.”
Today Avery Hill Publishing have announced Walden’s follow-up graphic novel I Love this Part with accompanying preview images from the book. Launching at this year’s Thought Bubble in November the book is described by AHP in the following terms:
“Can we ever tell anybody?”
“Probably not.”
Two girls in a small town in the USA kill time together as they try to get through their days at school. They watch videos, share earbuds as they play each other songs and exchange their stories. In the process they form a deep connection and an unexpected relationship begins to develop.
Check out the preview below for what looks to be one of the absolute must-buys of TB this year…
