The Second Safest Mountain coming to Kickstarter
The next comic from PRISM-nominated creator Otava Heikkilä will be coming to Kickstarter on March 21st, published by Scottish micropublisher Quindrie Press.
The Second Safest Mountain is a mature graphic novella about leaving the mountain dedicated to sacred women, and the repercussions of entering the world below. When Aru ventures into the land beneath the mountain, they are soon confronted with what it means to leave the safety of white womanhood. Previously exclusively available in digital format, The Second Safest Mountain is now being published as a glorious 100-page hardback edition. This beautiful book is the perfect size to show off Heikkilä’s confident and harrowing cartooning.
Otava Heikkilä is a comic author from Tampere, Finland. His work focuses on queer visual narratives, with eroticism, horror, trans experiences, and historical subjects often taking centre stage. His previous works include Letters for Lucardo and The Shattered Spear, which were published by Iron Circus, and Sasha from the Gym, which was nominated for a PRISM award in 2021.
Praise for The Second Safest Mountain:
“The Second Safest Mountain is visceral, stunning and dreamlike. It grips me by the heart. Otava can say so much with one look, one glance, one cast shadow. This story is surrealism at its best, used to talk about the terrible thing we have all laid prostrate to. Yet there is hope here, our world is dark but we carry the light.” – Jess Fink, Chester 5000
“Haunting, allegorical horror at its finest. Heikkilä’s comics are a masterclass in pacing and suspense.” – Mel Gillman, As the Crow Flies
The Second Safest Mountain will cost £20 plus shipping, alongside a limited edition bookplate signed by the author. A retailer option will be available as well as a variety of other short stories from Quindrie Press. Follow the campaign here or learn more about Quindrie Press here.
