Today at Broken Frontier we hand over our weekly editorial spot to our brand new Operations Editor EdieOP. Edie is, of course, a British Comic Awards-nominated graphic novelist, a contributor to the Broken Frontier Anthology and both Broken Frontier Small Press Yearbooks, and a well-known face on the UK indie comics circuit. She talks about joining BF and her new role on the site below…
First things first. Apologies for the pun in the title of this blog, I couldn’t resist. I’m just very excited to be writing about my new role as Operations Editor for Broken Frontier. As you may be aware I entered the comics world as an illustrator, then quickly found my feet as a comic artist and continued to develop my work and style from there. Eventually specialising in writing and drawing awful comics about horrible things.
I have always particularly enjoyed comic conventions as they’re a great opportunity to see what work is being produced and meet its talented creators. This is what made me want to write about comics, I’ve always enjoyed reading them but I wouldn’t know where to start writing. I thought it was a job for someone else, someone with a more appropriate skillset and stronger grip on the English language! After speaking to Andy (Oliver, BF Editor-in-Chief) at Thought Bubble he encouraged and supported me to write my first review – Encounters by the talented Anja Uhren and I haven’t looked back from there.
I’m hoping over the upcoming year I can continue to bring excessive amounts of enthusiasm and continue to share my love of comics and illustration with you all! I’m also really interested in the theories and academia surrounding comics, so as I sink my teeth into that as a topic hopefully it’s something I’ll be able to share with Broken Frontier. Other than that, I promise I will continue to review your fantastic work, stay up to no good and hopefully meet lots of you at conventions later in the year.
I might even wear a hat!
