We’re back this Thursday October 15th as our fortnightly online Gosh! Comics and Broken Frontier Drink and Draw has a very special edition celebrating the two new anthologies Success and Failure from the WIP Comics group! As usual we start at 7.30pm BST on Twitter. Not only do our online D&Ds keep all those who would meet at The King’s Arms in Soho, London every month (in those fondly remembered pre-March 2020 days) in regular contact, they also allow us to expand our reach for the event to a more global audience.

So, once again if you’re joining us online, here are the “rules”…
We’re using our regular pub format, adapted for a digital platform. So if you’ve never attended one of our monthly sessions this is how it will work. Our guest artists will each choose a drawing theme for three sessions across the evening. We’ll post each of these prompts with the hashtag #GoshBFDD in three batches at 7.30pm (GMT), 8.15pm and 9.00pm from both the Gosh! Comics Twitter account and the Broken Frontier Twitter account. You have 30 minutes to draw something fitting that theme, after which we’ll spend 15 minutes picking a winner before the next round begins. Don’t forget to post your drawings with the #GoshBFDD hashtag so everyone can see and join in. And also so we can easily retweet!
The London-based WIP Comics (work-in-progress) group, overseen by 2019 Broken Frontier ‘Six to Watch’ artist Joe Stone, exists to provide a mutually supportive community of aspiring comics creators. With monthly meet-ups (now online) and an ever burgeoning membership it’s provided a vital network to newer voices on the scene and has published a number of annual anthologies of their work to date. We reviewed the two newest books, Success and Failure which launched at the weekend, here this week at Broken Frontier. You can find out more about WIP Comics at www.meetup.com/wipcomics, follow them on Instagram and Twitter and visit their online store where you can order the anthologies online.
To tie in with the dual theme of the books we’ve expanded our normal Drink and Draw reach. This week we have six artists who will team up in pairs to provide two opposite drawing themes each round. Let’s meet those guest artists!
Havva Bird’s carefully paced, self-published, slice-of-life drama The Misadventures of Jay + Han (below) reached its second issue recently. You can read reviews of both issues here.
Chloe Starling’s work ranges from the colourful fantasy of The Promise (below) to the autobio of Musings on the Outside.
Trish Phng Keng Boon contributed ‘Working on Projects’ to the Failure anthology on the trials and tribulations of comics creation and rejection. More work to see on Instagram here!
Zach Cobb is a Drink and Draw regular whose comics have been showcased in this and previous anthologies. He’s been posting some fun super-heroic tributes on social media lately so make sure to follow him on Instagram.
Nick Bryan is the writer behind comics like the layered urban fantasy of The Little Deaths of Watson Tower with Rosie Alexander (below).
We’ll see you all again on Thursday! Whether you’re a regular or a newbie all are welcome so please do join in and be part of our international Drink and Draw fun! And if you enjoy this event why not check out the Gosh! Comics webstore here?
